Helio's Hidden Universe | 2008

The idea of photographing "Helinho" was presented to me by a friend and I was very excited! First of all, I had always heard many great things about his personality, and second, it was a wonderful thing to be able to work with a fellow Brazilian. To say that Castroneves is a great racing car driver is almost an understatement! Watching him during practice and racing days made it clear to me, that Helio is totally committed and passionate about what he does. In this body of work named "Helio's Hidden Universe" the idea was to use my Miksang approach to reveal the hidden universe of Helio's enviroment and preparation time within his professional world of courage and speed! Poetry of Coral Gables | 2008

This collection of black and white images became a body of work called "Poetry of Coral Gables". When developing this work I decided to use the Miksang approach to bring out the hidden corners and details that go so often unseen by life with its fast paced rhythm. Miksang is a Tibetan word that means basically "good eye" or "contemplative eye" and in my photography I've tried to bring with it a little magic. I enjoy taking pictures of small corners or pieces of a bigger picture... I enjoy capturing what I think is hidden but too beautiful to leave undiscovered. With Coral Gables, the magic to me was the blending of the old and the new with harmony and charm. We can still see the poetry of the old fountain and it's water marks close to the high-rise in the backround... the many old gates and arches... and the majestic trees that still stand proud and strong despite the many changes brought by the change of times... I was approached by the Museum of the Americas to participate in this free theme exhibition. I liked the idea of showing this image because it takes me back to a time where I traveled through Europe and had a lot of fun taking pictures of gypsies and street entertainers.
